25 Dummest Twin Comments

A group of us Mothers of Multiples got together and posted the dummest comments people would say to us. Here it is! 25. Complete strangers have said “Oh you have twins! My mother was twin or my friend has twins or my nephews are twins, etc.” (Do they really think I would find this bit of information interesting from someone I don't know?) 24. “Do they run in your family?” (I answer "They do now!"). 23. "Were you trying/planning on having twins?" (Hello - Is this even possible?) 22. “How can you tell them apart?” ( Hello, they are fraternal which means they are NOT identical Einstein) 21. “Oh did you know it was twins?” (Like did you take fertility medicine?" I thought that was none of her business, and I was taken off guard.) 20. "Which one came out first?" (Like this would matter to anyone, yet still it seems that it does.) 19. "When are you going to have your next set of twins" which is usually followed up by an evil chuckle (Gee, I think I'll try tonight...what idiots, that the last thing I want to think about) 18. "Wow, baby twins, you better enjoy them while their little - they grow up so fast" (Oh, really I thought they were like chihuahuas and stayed small forever) 17. "You must have your hands full" (I respond - "Better full than empty" and their cunning smile becomes a frown) 16. "Better you than me" (I say "You are absolutely correct") 15. "I could never do it." (Oh really. What would you do? Would you put them on the curb with signs around their necks that say, "Free to a good home. )
14. "Do they have different personalities?" (No. They are the same human being divided into several parts.)

13. Said by a stranger, "They're identical, right?" Mom answers, "No. They're fraternal." Stranger response, "They are NOT!" (OK. You're right. I have no idea what I'm talking about. These are not my children. I thought it would be fun to borrow them from a mom down at Baby Gap. It's been more than an hour. I guess I should return them.)

12. "Are they 'paternal' twins?" (Yes. They have a father. There was only one virgin birth.)

11. "Just wait till they're older. It only gets harder." (Thank you. I woke up this morning hoping I'd receive a word of discouragement while pushing a cart of preschoolers down the cereal aisle.)

10. "When one cries, does he wake the others?" (No. Multiples cannot hear each other's cries because they all communicate with their special telepathic language only.)

9. From a perfect stranger: "Were they in the same sac?" (Hello. Nice to meet you, too. Will you be sharing your gynecological history with me as well?)

8. "Are they developmentally behind?" (Well, let's see. They're 3 years old and thus far, all their graduate school applications have been denied. We'll get back with you on that.)

7. "How do you do it?" (Haven't you seen the Nike commercials - Just do it!)

6. "Are they natural?" (Nope, their arms and legs are made of silicone.)

5. "You must be SO busy." (Are you volunteering to clean my house, babysit, etc.?)

4. "Did you take drugs?" (Well, there was this one time in college....)

3. "What do you do when they all cry at the same time?" (Sometimes I cry. Sometimes I go to Starbucks.)

2. Said to a mom of boy/girl twins: "Are they identical?" (Uh. Not exactly.)

1. Only one comment could be voted No. 1. Drum roll, please.......... After a stranger had been informed that the toddler boys were twins, she asked a simple question: "Are they brothers?" (Enough said.)

I love # 17 and # !!! I seriously want to print these out and just hand them to people when we take our girls out and about. The triplets are 1 month old and I have heard "Better you than me" like 10 times already !

Awesome list!!! I wish I could remember the comebacks when those things are said to me. I usually think about the comeback way after the comment is said. I wish people would think just a wee bit before speaking! Thanks for the laughs!

I have 13 month old triplets and I got two great questions as well,
1. Do they have the same daddy? Hum, how to respond to that one?
2. Where they all born at the same time? This was from an adult with three kids of his own! Uh, No, one was born a week earlier, that's why he's smaller.....Duh.

These were great! Thanks for the laugh.
